Alexis Atkins is a 16 year-old Junior at Centennial High School in Champaign, IL. She loves being involved in school activities, espcially her school's cheerleading and track teams. Last year, she placed fifth in the state for both cheerleading and in her 4x4 meter relay event. Sports are a major part of her life although she has been in dance and gymnastics ever since she was a young girl. She has traveled all over the country with a competitive dance team which has won national titles over the past few years. The second cheer squad she competes with outside of school, Super CDA All Stars, competed last year at Universal Studios in Florida, where they won the Worlds Competition.
Alexis believes dancing is one the best ways to express herself, and without it she feels a part of her life would be missing. She is also involved in Student Council, Math Club, Spanish Club, Key Club, Art Club, and Expressions Choir. She loves to sing, and in choir they go around town weekly to perform for various businesses and people. She recently has found a love for performing not only in dance, but in acting as well. Her drama teacher showed her a whole separate way to perform on stage and Alexis has made acting a key aspect of her life. Her dream is to one day move from the stage and on to films. She enjoys being part of the drama department at her school, and has been in numerous plays over this past year. Last year, she had the lead role of Ariel in her school's musical "Footloose".
She is the oldest child of Spencer and Tracy Atkins, with one brother, Spencer, and two sisters, Victoria & Isabella. She is close to every one of them, each in a different way. She believes these different relationships help her to grow and prosper in positive ways. Her mother Tracy, and father Spencer, are truly some of the best role models in her life. She looks up to them in many different ways, and they both always give her the best advice. She says they have taught her how to be a respectable young woman, and she believes that is one of the best gifts they have given her. They raised her into a Catholic family, which she also believes has helped her achieve such amazing things in life. Her family is what keeps her going everyday, and she loves knowing that she can come home at the end of the day to a loving and supportive environment. Alexis wants to thank her family for always being there no matter what, and for giving her so many opportunities of a lifetime.
Traveling is also something that Alexis enjoys. She loves trying and seeing new things. Alexis has been to many places over the years and loves visiting a variety of places outside of the country. Her favorite places to visit are Europe and the Bahamas. She loves anywhere that is tropical with warm weather and a beach! Taking a nap under the warm sun during the day is one the best feelings in the world!
Words cannot describe how excited she is for the upcoming year. Her journey started the moment her name was announced as the new Miss Illinois Teen USA 2010, and she cannot wait to see what this title has in store for her. Alexis truly believes that everything happens for a reason, and knows that no matter what, everything will fall into its own place. She cannot wait for the Miss Teen USA pageant, and is ready for the thrilling and life changing experience. She is already thinking about all the fun things that will happen through the year, and is ecstatic about being able to meet all of the other girls in the Miss Teen USA pageant.
